OUR COMPANY HISTORY
Starting a custodial firm to service manufacturing and R&D facilities in the
technology capital of the world at the height of breakthroughs in the
semiconductor, disk drive, and Internet firms posed both opportunities and
challenges for the founders of Clean Innovation. Raffy Espiritu, founder and
president, utilized the knowledge and skills he obtained from alliances with
custodial industry experts in the area and facilities and manufacturing
engineering managers in the Silicon Valley to build a business model that
can keep up with the ever-changing demands in the high technology
environment.
In 1991 Raffy Espiritu started the custodial firm, Clean Building Services,
with an unwavering focus on training employees on the demand of clients for
attention to details and proper use of specialized cleaning materials and
equipments. Specifications for clean rooms and electrostatic discharge (ESD)
control were constantly changing as semiconductors entered the submicron era
and disk drives offered greater gigabyte capacities. This posed a challenge
to in-house janitorial staff and also to traditional custodial firms bidding
to do the job at a lower cost. Raffy saw the opportunity to apply the best
approach, which is to first understand the demands of clients work
environment, propose the process that addresses requirements of quality
assurance, work closely with the client to assure compliance, and to do
these for a reasonable price.
The company needed to focus on quality and cost required the expertise
Raffy's principal business associate, Christine Chen, a licensed accountant,
with an MBA in Accounting. She complemented Raffy's vision with her
leadership in building a strong financial base and quality assurance
orientation. In less than five years Raffy and Christine led the company to
belong to the top 10 custodial firms in Silicon Valley.
The company values human resources as its most important resource. To
support its direct workforce, the company assembled a team of young and
dedicated professionals, mostly graduates top local universities, like from
the San Jose State University and Santa Clara University, to provide
administrative, training, and management services. A board of consultants
provides expert skills and technical updates on developments in the areas of
ESD control, clean room protocols, and custodial processes, supplies, and
equipment.
Events in the new third millennium brought about changes in society and the
economy. Globalization became the norm. More are aware of what others are
doing. Different industries learn form each other and update their
standards. This is particularly observed in the continuing increase in the
number of factories and offices that maintain ISO 9000 standards. This
brings opportunities once more for custodial firms to maintain operation
that could serve a broader clientele.
Clean Building Service Corporation saw this opportunity for expanding client
base and further growth. In 2002 it positioned itself to be able to service
both high technology facilities as well as other service organizations, like
government, that adapted the upgraded standards in cleanliness in the work
environment. To further emphasize its commitment to keep pace with
innovations in it service areas, Clean Building Services Corporation adopted
a new name, Clean Innovation Corporation.
